The poem-‘The Tale of Custard the Dragon’ is a humorous ballad. In rhythmic verse it tells the story of custard, the dragon who lives with Belinda and her other animal friends a kitten-a mouse and a dog. His friends boast of their bravery but prove the other way round. Custard who appears to be a coward proves to be the bravest when it confronts a pirate, whom he fights and gobbles.
