Question 1.
Write a short story in about (150-200 words) on the basis of the hints provided.
Answer:
Going for long walks has always been a passion with me. As usual, I was walking amongst the thick green forest till I heard that voice which seemed to be of a teenager. I felt as if I could hear someone gasping for breath. I looked around. I saw a boy around ten to twelve years old, he was hiding himself below behind a big peepal tree. He was staring at me pitiably. He was bleeding at his forehead. With a calm mind, I softly looked at him and said, “Don’t be afraid, tell me about yourself. How have you come here ?” He asked, “Sir, I am from another state.

My parents had died in an accident a few months ago. One of my distant uncles had been taking care of me. One day my uncle sent me with another uncle saying I would get good education there. But no sir, I was made to work in a factory for a paltry sum. Since then, I could not contact my uncle. The uncle whom I had been left with here said that I had been sold out to him by my uncle. I had not been getting proper food, though, I worked for nearly 12 hours a day. Today, I was feeling feverish. So, I did not work. But my employer thrashed me so much that I somehow managed to run out of the factory. I loitered here and there and finally got the tree for protection. Sir, please, help me.”

I understood it that was the case of child labour. What a pathetic condition of these children are! Alas! The child labour is a real stigma on the society and in our country. Government should take some stern steps to punish those who employ such children at homes, factories, etc.

I took him to my house. I made many enquiries, after getting him some food. I called a social activist friend and talked about the boy. Then, I took the boy to the nearby police station for further action. My friend assured me that he would ensure a safe future and a good education for the boy. I took a sigh of relief that I had done a noble job for the day.

Feeling something serious,’Ram picked up his bike hurriedly and raced it towards his home, before a crowd gathered. Ram feared the worst! The old man would have been dead now! Did anyone notice me hitting him? Perhaps the child? But no, that child would not have seen his face fully for he had his helmet on! Ram shut himself in his room, for the next couple of hours, after which he came out and sat in the hall. Just across him, he found his father seated deeply engrossed in his newspaper. Ram greeted his father who, while returning the greetings moved the newspaper away from his face.

Just a glance at his father and Ram got a jolt. “Oh! father! What is that bandage for on your forehead? You got hurt? But where … how ?” His father said in a calm tone, “Nothing! I tripped and fell down when I went for walking in the morning. It was as if someone pushed me from behind may be a biker you won’t believe …a small boy rushed to me and helped me to the doctor’s clinic. How irresponsible today’s youths are…. what’s the hurry ? why should they speed on the road, that too early in the morning?” As he was saying, Ram felt his ears plugged in and his eyes go blind and he realised that perhaps, it was his own father whom he hit with his bike in the morning.

Short Story Writing Class 9 Format, Topics, Examples, Samples 2
Answer:
Robot – A Boon of Science:
Yesterday India tested 104 satellites together successfully and created a world history. I was also very proud of our scientists. When I slept at night soon fell into the scientific world. I saw myself roaming in a deserted area. Soon a robot comes to the ground and meets the dry leaf. It autonomously collects leaves, cuts grass and shovels snow.

A robot is a machine especially one programmable by a computer, that is capable of carrying out a complex series of actions automatically. Robots may be constructed to take on human form but most robots are machines designed to perform a task with no regard to how they look. They have replaced humans in performing repetitive and dangerous tasks which humans prefer not to do or are unable to do because of size limitations.

I saw this robot operates without any supervision. It cuts grass a fraction of an inch at a time. The clippings are left on the yard to serve as a natural fertilizer. When the robot collects leaves, it makes them into piles.

Question 26.
Rohit – addicted to mobile phone – gaming and chatting – oblivious of the real world – performs poorly in class tests – realisation – strives to improve.
Answer:
Addiction of Mobile Phones:
I know Rohit for the past few years. What a brilliant boy he was, when I met him! But now, I heard his mummy telling my mother that his teacher has given him an ultimatum that if he does not do well in his last class test, he would not give the final exam and he would be detained, in class IX for he has to face the board exam next year. What could be the reason for this poor performance, I wondered!

When I called Rohit twice, he just evaded me saying that he was busy with his studies, but his mother denied it. When asked her for explanation she said that he was getting too preoccupied with his mobile phone – always spending too much of time in gaming and chatting. That is disastrous, I thought. Without prior appointment I just barged into Rohit’s room one day and asked him what he was upto, for he had his mobile phone at that time. My efforts to change his mind failed.

The next day I called him to accompany me to the nearby hospital saying that I need to get some medicines. I took him to the cyber rehabilitation department and showed him the patients admitted there-all young boys of Rohits’ age. I told him they were all cyber addicted and have come for treatment. Rohit was thoroughly taken aback by this encounter. It did not take him many days to transform. Now-a-days I find Rohit spending his leisure at the neighbouring park.

When I went near the crowd I found that the old man was moaning with pain and his left leg was bleeding profusely. The people around were talking that some auto-rickshaw driver had hit him badly while he was crossing the road. I remember a day before I had helped him while crossing the road as he was very weak and needed support. It seemed that he had no family.

His condition stated that he had not eaten food properly for many days. In the meantime I called for an ambulance and he was carried to the nearby hospital. I went along with him. After reaching there I called my father to the hospital who did the formalities. When the old man became conscious after a few hours, tears came out of his eyes when he looked at me. With a trembling voice he thanked me for my hospitality and help. He shared with me his sorrow that he was once a wealthy man but he invested a lot in a business that did not work out and for its compensation he had to sell his home as well. After that his wife left him alone. From that day onwards he was roaming in the streets doing nothing. I felt very sad to hear his story. I motivated him to begin a new life and even my father promised me to help him.
