Malu lived with Malu’s parents in the North Pole. Malu had great fun with Malu’s seagull friends.
One day, Malu’s father told Malu that the hunters had come to trap Malu and Malu’s family. Malu knew how to hide very well. Malu shut Malu’s eyes and curled up like a ball of snow.
The hunters searched for Malu and Malu’s family everywhere but in vain. We can avoid repeating the names by using certain other words in their place. Study the table below.

Lived a little polar bear
Snow white, snow bright was her mane,
Malu Bhalu was her name.

Word-Meanings-Icy (आइसी)–covered with ice, बर्फ से ढंका हुआ। Lair (लेयर) den, माँद । Mane (मेन)-long hair on the neck, गर्दन पर के बाल (अयाल)। Clever (क्लेवर)-intelligent, तेज।
अनुवाद : काफी ऊँचाई पर बर्फ की माँद में एक छोटी ध्रुवीय भालू रहती थी। उसकी गर्दन के बाल (अयाल) बर्फ की तरह सफेद और चमकीले थे। उसका नाम था मालू भालू। बहुत जल्दी मालू भालू ने वे सारे गुण सीख लिए जो उसके माँ बाप जानते थे, जैसे बड़ी और छोटी मछलियों को पकड़ना। मालू एक तेज भालू थी
2. Malu said to her mother one day:
Ma, I’m going far out to play,
I want to see the things that lie
There beyond the big blue sky.
A little patience, child, said Mum,
In the summer when next it comes,
Summer?… Patience?… What a test!
Malu simply could not rest.

Clasped Malu tight within her arms,
Then she said-her voice was firm
Now my dear you’ll have to swim.
But Ma! said Malu, what do I know?
How will I? I’ve never Swum before!
Don’t worry dear, said Malu’s mother,
Do as I do, that’s all, she advised her.
Word-Meanings-Clasped (क्लास्प्ड)-hold, पकड़ी। Firm (फर्म)-strict, सख्त। Advised (एडवाइस्ड) suggested, सलाह दी।
अनुवाद : सबसे पहले मालू की माँ ने उसे अपनी बाँहों में कसकर पकड़ ली। फिर उसने कहा उसकी आवाज सख्त थी, अब मेरी प्रिय मालू आपको तैरना सीखना होगा। लेकिन माँ! मालू ने कहा, मैं तैरने के विषय में क्या जानती हूँ? मैं कैसे तैसंगी? मैं इसके पहले कभी नहीं तैरी हूँ। मेरी प्यारी बच्ची घबराओ नहीं, मालू की माँ ने कहा। मैं जैसा कहती हूँ, करो। तुम्हारे लिए बस उतना काफी है, माँ ने सलाह दी।
4. She had no choice, no other way,
Malu had to swim that day.
Tight she gripped her mother’s hand,
Into the water splash! to land.
Brave mother’s brave young daughter!
Doubt and fear she left behind her.
Malu swam with all her might,
It didn’t matter wrong or right.
